{"id":367,"date":"2014-03-13T15:59:02","date_gmt":"2014-03-13T22:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/?p=367"},"modified":"2014-03-13T15:59:02","modified_gmt":"2014-03-13T22:59:02","slug":"learning-to-spin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/?p=367","title":{"rendered":"Learning to Spin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I finally succumbed to the lure of spinning and signed up for a drop spindle class taught by my friend <a title=\"Stitch Witchery\" href=\" http:\/\/visionsister.blogspot.com\" target=\"_blank\">Dawn<\/a> and hosted by our local yarn shop, <a title=\"Serial Knitters Yarn Shop\" href=\"http:\/\/www.serialknitters.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Serial Knitters<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I knew it would be addictive.\u00c2\u00a0 And I also knew that I didn&#8217;t really need another hobby.<\/p>\n<p>So much for willpower. \u00c2\u00a0Dawn only teaches the class 3-4 times a year, and I had already put it off for two years.\u00c2\u00a0 And she is an excellent spinning teacher.\u00c2\u00a0 About halfway through the four hour lesson, I was absolutely hooked.\u00c2\u00a0 More fiber please!\u00c2\u00a0 I had made one mini-skein and was itching to keep going and make another.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140119_181843_clr_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-368\" alt=\"IMG_20140119_181843_clr_sm\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140119_181843_clr_sm-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140119_181843_clr_sm-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140119_181843_clr_sm.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>At the end of class I knew two additional things:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I needed a stash of spinning fiber.<\/li>\n<li>My muscles were going to be very sore the next day.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>My muscles were indeed very sore the next day.\u00c2\u00a0 I felt like I had been hit by a bus.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently, there are muscles in the body that are not used for knitting or crochet.\u00c2\u00a0 Who knew?<\/p>\n<p>I had left the shop with the humble beginnings of a fiber stash, and once my muscles were somewhat recovered I started to spin again.\u00c2\u00a0 Understanding that I&#8217;m still totally addicted, I tried to pace myself this time so as not to repeat the episode of spinning muscle exhaustion.\u00c2\u00a0 For weeks I was mostly successful.<\/p>\n<p>Until I got near the end of the fiber supply, that is.\u00c2\u00a0 With the end in sight, and no tedious duties to distract me, I spun on.<\/p>\n<p>Then I couldn&#8217;t stop until it was plied.\u00c2\u00a0 Many hours later, I had this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140312_095619_clr_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-369\" alt=\"IMG_20140312_095619_clr_sm\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140312_095619_clr_sm-254x300.jpg\" width=\"254\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140312_095619_clr_sm-254x300.jpg 254w, http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_20140312_095619_clr_sm.jpg 848w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/a>And another bundle of sore muscles.\u00c2\u00a0 But it was so worth it.\u00c2\u00a0 Look at it &#8211;
