{"id":484,"date":"2015-01-25T19:19:55","date_gmt":"2015-01-26T03:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/?p=484"},"modified":"2015-01-25T19:19:55","modified_gmt":"2015-01-26T03:19:55","slug":"january-is-for-selfish-knitting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/?p=484","title":{"rendered":"January is for Selfish Knitting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After all of the knitting for everyone else is finished, it&#8217;s time to knit for myself.\u00c2\u00a0 I had only gotten about halfway through my purple <a title=\"On the Needles\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/?p=445\" target=\"_blank\">Carrie sweater<\/a> before I needed to put it away in favor of gift knitting.\u00c2\u00a0 But now that the weather has turned chilly and wet, I really want to wear it!\u00c2\u00a0 So I immediately pulled it back out of hibernation and knit like mad.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_133844_clr_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-485\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_133844_clr_sm-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20150107_133844_clr_sm\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_133844_clr_sm-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_133844_clr_sm.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>The rest of the body flew off the needles.\u00c2\u00a0 That simple diamond pattern really keeps things interesting!\u00c2\u00a0 As soon as I cast off at the hem, I tried it on.\u00c2\u00a0 Perfect!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_134247_clr_trm_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-486\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_134247_clr_trm_sm-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20150107_134247_clr_trm_sm\" width=\"196\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_134247_clr_trm_sm-196x300.jpg 196w, http:\/\/blog.tangledstrands.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_20150107_134247_clr_trm_sm.jpg 652w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/><\/a>I only made a few modifications to the body.\u00c2\u00a0 I like my sweaters to hit at or near the widest point of my hip, so I worked an additional set of increases at the bottom of the waist shaping to give me an added inch around the hem, and then I knit to the desired length instead of stopping at the length given in the pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 This worked out beautifully.<\/p>\n<p>Now there are just the sleeves to knit.\u00c2\u00a0 Which of course are easy and boring and seem to take forever.\u00c2\u00a0 But once again it was more important to me to have the desired length in the body, and I wasn&#8217;t sure if that would mean there wouldn&#8217;t be enough yarn left for long sleeves.\u00c2\u00a0 Next time I hope I get to knit the sleeves first and get them out of the way.\u00c2\u00a0 At least I&#8217;m working them both at the same time so that when I cast off again I&#8217;ll have a finished sweater!\u00c2\u00a0 And it looks like I&#8217;ll have plenty of yarn to make the sleeves as long as I want.<\/p>\n<p>Is it done yet?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After all of the knitting for everyone else is finished, it&#8217;s time to knit for myself.\u00c2\u00a0 I had only gotten about halfway through my purple Carrie sweater before I needed to put it away in favor of gift knitting.\u00c2\u00a0 But &hellip;
