While I was on a spinning kick, and still too tired to think about knitting on most days, I grabbed one of the little one ounce fiber bundles from the Woolgatherings fiber sampler pack.\u00c2\u00a0 These are quick little spinning adventures designed to help me learn about the different sheep breeds and their fiber characteristics.<\/p>\n

Polwarth<\/a> is one of the breeds found at a few farms here in the Pacific Northwest, though these sheep are more often seen in Australia.\u00c2\u00a0 The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook<\/a> lists this as a next-to-skin fiber that spins up a bit easier than Merino.\u00c2\u00a0 My little bundle of fiber was super soft and fluffy, so I agree with the next to skin assessment.\u00c2\u00a0 I had no trouble with Merino fiber, so I felt pretty confident about being able to spin Polwarth without trouble as well.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_20150508_104933_sm\"<\/a>I spun a continuous singles bobbin, then chain plied it into the finished yarn.\u00c2\u00a0 The yarn retained the soft, bouncy qualities of the fiber, which makes me very happy.\u00c2\u00a0 This one’s a keeper for the to-spin list.<\/p>\n
